Garry & Aaron

Sape Duo

Garry Sudom Raymond and Aaron Alan Robert are Sape’ players based in Miri. Having been performing together since 2017 for a range of events, their passion is in preserving traditional melodies and in inspiring more youth to learn music from their culture. Both are Kenyah from Long Mekaba and Long Moh respectively.

Garry is a music graduate from UiTM, Shah Alam who now focuses on performing, music producing and event organising. He is also the co-founder of Sape’ Movement. Garry learnt the Sape’ from master Penghulu Jalong Tanyit.

Aaron is an upper six student at Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang, Miri. He learnt the Sape’ from his grandfather, Lian Seling at age nine and has been playing it ever since. Apart from being a celebrated Kenyah traditional warrior dancer, Aaron is also one of the youngest Sape’ players to have taken part in the Malaysia Book of Records attempt for a 50 hours non-stop Sape’ performance.
