MYY Living Arts UnConference & Festival is a ground-up event featuring Borneo-based artists and creatives. Meet, converse and experience work by artists and creatives from Brunei, Kalimantan, Sabah and Sarawak.

This inaugural event with the theme “ASPIRATION”, hopes to bring to light the narratives of us who are not only from, but also living in Borneo, how that translates in our world views and our work.

What is “Unconference Anyway?”

What is “UnConference”  Anyway?

Unlike a typical conference which is hosted in one place, with titles set by the organiser, the UnConference just means that you (the attendees) together with the moderators will get to lead the agenda and topics. It could be based on a specific discipline based on the broad theme, or your preference for the day – or even just a chat based on good old curiosity!

Working based on the way most of our Borneo indigenous communities originally lived, which is in villages or longhouses, each Borneo territory (Brunei, Kalimantan, Sabah and Sarawak) will be hosted in various cafes around the Miri city (Marina area) with its own moderator or tuai rumah (in the indigenous Iban language means the Longhouse Headman).

 Introducing “The Tuai Rumah”

The selected tuai rumah are celebrated artists, creative, cultural practitioners or advocates who are living and working in the Borneo territory they represent. They will be curating and managing their rumah which will feature various
artists’ work and discipline.
